What is biofeedback?
In biofeedback we measure and record body functions such as heart rate, muscle
tension, or circulation with appropriate instruments. You can then note the changes taking place in
your body from one moment to another. Feedback takes place via the computer screen or over a
loudspeaker, helping you to bring these functions under voluntary control.
As treatment proceeds,
you will find that you are able to apply ever more effectively the skills acquired through biofeedback
and at every moment even without instruments. Thus biofeedback means learning to perceive your body,
self-control and self-cure.
Is biofeedback a recognized procedure?
Biofeedback is an internationally established method in clinical psychology,
psychotherapy, and medicine. The method has been in use since the seventies, originally in the USA,
to treat a number of human diseases. The efficacy of biofeedback has been demonstrated in many
studies. Biofeedback can be used effectively in the treatment of the following disorders:
Panic attacks, high blood pressure, poor circulation in the fingers, incontinence, migraines,
sleep disorders, tension headaches, muscle hardening, grinding of the teeth
Biofeedback is also used for:

stress reduction

relaxation

specific muscle training
